Getting to grips with Nokia’s latest handsets – putting the Nokia 5.1 to the test for our Partners
For your customers, getting hold of the best mobile phones for the people in their business is essential.
There are many makes and models in the marketplace and, at Daisy Distribution, we strive to do our own field testing to give our Partners insight into how the latest devices perform. So, when we offered one of our Business Development Managers the opportunity to test out the Nokia 5.1 he jumped at the chance.
We gave him two weeks to tes the device on the road, in the office and at home.
Display: 5.5″ (18:9 aspect ratio)
Camera: 16MP rear and 8MP front
Battery: 3,000 mAh
With its aluminium frame and corning Gorilla glass, the Nokia 5.1 is sleek and appealing, holding its own with models from leading brands and at higher price points when it comes to look, feel and durability.
With a useful 18:9 aspect ratio on a 5.5” screen, the viewing area when held in portrait is great. Rit boasts a full HD+ display, so brightness and contrast are spot on. Plus, with its curved edges and smooth design, it’s very comfortable to hold.
Starting up the 5.1 for the first time takes a while but, once it was all fired up, loading up this handset with my apps and info was a smooth process – using the Android platform is intuitive and simple, especially if you’ve used an Android phone in the past.
With an internal memory of 16GB storage could be fairly limited, but with the option of adding a micro SD card, this isn’t an issue at all. This is also a great upsell opportunity for Partners considering ranging micro SD cards!
The best bit when it comes to ease of use, the Nokia 5.1 comes with a fingerprint scanner – a feature that, until now, has been limited to higher priced handsets. To add to the convenience of this benefit, the scanner is located on the back of the handset – making it quick and easy to access.
On the road…
Taking this phone out on the road was a pleasure. There was no issue with the battery burning down and, in fact, it lasted well into day two.
I was able to easily forward information back to the office after each meeting and to book follow-up meetings into the calendar.
And talking of this, the Nokia calendar, powered by Google, is one of my favourite features for both the 5.1 and the 2.1. Clear and easy to use, the layout is far better than most other phones offer, with some seasonal and topical images built in for added interest.
In the office…
In the office, the Nokia 5.1 became an easy extension of my work space. The Android One OS means that this handset comes with the suite of Google services, ready to go, including Google Docs and Google Assistant. All allowing me to quickly refer to documents and dates while I was in meetings with colleagues.
Security is also taken care of nicely on the 5.1 as, with Android One, three years of monthly security updates and two Android updates are included.
The large screen on this handset was great for staying abreast of business at home, allowing me to review documents easily and giving me the same productivity features as any other premium handset.
One of the most useful selling points of the 5.1 for me, was the camera. The 16 MP main camera is fast and has a reliable auto-focus system that helped me take brilliant shots all of the time. This would be beneficial for some of our end customers too, as they may not want to splash the cash on an expensive camera for their business. The Nokia 5.1 is the answer.
A cost-effective handset choice with a high end design, the Nokia 5.1 has a good range of features that make it a great choice for business. I’d be happy to stick with this handset and I’m sure my Partners and their end customers would agree – allowing their teams to work smarter without paying a premium up front for an expensive device.
